Engineering Manager

Overall purpose of the job:
Integrate and manage the resources within and between the Engineering, Spray Painting, Socket Automation Line and Injection Moulding Departments.
Ensure that all Company set budgets are adhered to and thus manage the departmental budgets to ensure costs are effectively controlled.

Engineering Manager - Production

Duties & Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Operations Manager to develop and implement a strategic plan to ensure production and sales budgets are delivered on.
Effectively manage the resources within the departments and wider business, to ensure efficient running of the business
To support and manager i.e have line management responsibility for the Production Engineer
Develop and implement an Engineering Apprentice Programme
Liaise with the Purchasing Manager on a regular basis to manage and control both the volume of stock and its subsequent value thus ensuring we get the right balance i.e have value-controlled working stock
To oversee and manage the Socket Automation Line Department, working closely with the Production Supervisors and Product Development Technician
To further develop the relationship with RG Luma, who assembled and designed the S.A.L machine, developing both a maintenance programme, stock control system and a training plan for staff
Ensure the day to day running of the Spray Painting Department is managed and liaise with Team Leaders regarding the scheduling of work required for customer orders.
To work closely with the HR department regarding all the HR matters in a timely fashion within the Company Policies and Procedures
Prepare and implement a maintenance plan across the business working alongside the Facilities and Maintenance Manager, as well as the Production Engineer, ensuring this is adhered to across all areas of responsibility
Hold a weekly meeting with the Production Engineer to discuss the scheduling of work as well as the departmental performance
General Responsibilities & Duties:
Support the Production Engineer with the development of staff including any new staff
To be responsible for motivating your team (including supporting the Production Engineer and their engineering team) to improve productivity. Develop a positive team culture by introducing competitive techniques e.g fewest failures. Encourage and support team members to complete orders on time but if necessary, encourage the team to work overtime
Continually review how the team operates (including overseeing the Engineering team) identify areas for improvement and forward your suggestions to the Production Management Team e.g productivity, quality of work etc.
Conduct performance reviews with each team member in the Spray Painting, Socket Automation Line and Injection Moulding Teams and the Production Engineer, liaising with the HR Department with regards to review dates and repot the results of the reviews to the Production Management Team.
Ensure team members in the Spray Painting, Socket Automation Line and Injection Moulding Departments start and finish work at the correct time, record their hours accurately and take breaks at the agreed times. Document reasons for absences, late arrivals and early finishes on timesheets provided; conduct back to work (fit for work) interviews on every occasion of absence and monitor staff attendance
Check holiday availability for the Spray Painting, Socket Automation Line and Injection Moulding Departments using a holiday chart, in liaison with the Production Management Team
As far as is possible, manage and resolve staff problems within the Spray Painting, Socket Automation Line and Injection Moulding Departments, including poor performance levels. If in doubt, always seek the advice of your Production Management Team and HR Department. Report any breaches of misconduct to the Production Management Team together with action taken e.g Verbal Warning. Acts of Gross Misconduct must be reported to the Production Management Team immediately. Please refer to the Disciplinary Procedure for more details
Attend daily production meetings and meetings relating to the product assembly improvements/changes and health and safety as and when instructed by the Production Management team
Identify staffing requirements within the Spray Painting, Socket Automation Line and Injection Moulding Departments and ensure adequate levels of skill are always available, Report staffing issues to the Production Management Team
Maintain good housekeeping and maintenance of the plastic moulding and engineering areas.
Carry out all other duties as requested by the Directors and Production Management Team as and when needed
The Person
We are looking for a very capable and professional Engineering Manager who has worked in a similar environment.
You will be responsible for all areas of production and have a proven track record of running a smooth operation.
You must be an excellent comunicator and staff manager, with the ability to improve proccess through working practice and effective management.
