First Choice Recruitment are recruiting for a Production Controller. Our client is a global leader in the manufacture and distribution of fluoropolymer lined piping, fittings, valves, sampling systems and other associated equipment. The products are used for conveying hazardous and corrosive chemicals. Well known by the customer base in the UK the business is both growing and profitable.

Key Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Purchasing & Logistics Manager. The role involves the co-ordination and control of work flow and materials for specific areas of activity and departments. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work and shipment schedules; conferring with department Team Leaders to determine progress of work and completion dates; compiling details of progress, inventory levels and production problems; managing and controlling the production schedules, ensuring that suppliers are meeting schedule requirements and feeding back to sales with customer/delivery impacts, completing despatch paperwork and ensuring export documentation is in order.

To review orders to determine the required material requirements or material priorities.

  • To requisition and maintain inventories of materials or supplies to meet production demands, often using Kanban methodologies.

  • To discuss with department leaders progress of production and distribute schedules of work orders to ensure timeliness of deliveries.

  • To examine documents to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications

  • Insuring export controls compliance and licensing

  • To arrange for assembly and delivery of orders, ensuring paperwork matches on cost and specification.

  • To revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labour or material shortages, backlogs or other interruptions.

  • To compile and prepare documentation related to production sequences, transportation, personnel schedules and purchases.

  • To complete documentation for exportation and material traceability.

  • To confer with suppliers and customers to co-ordinate deliveries and shipment activity and to resolve challenges or eliminate delays.

  • To maintain files, such as product costings, bills of materials and other related items relating to specific orders.

Key Attributes

The key to success in this role rests with an ability to build relationships, both externally and internally. Working with the production teams in the factory requires the role holder to maintain high levels of co-operation and communication with them. Having a positive can-do attitude is essential alongside a methodical approach to planning and workload management, with an ability to prioritise. Knowing export controls, compliance and licensing will go a long way to ensuring customer orders are fulfilled on time and in full.

Education and Experience

  • A supply chain or an engineering related qualification would be an advantage.

  • An experience with managing export documentation and dealing with freight forwarders.

  • A good knowledge of capacity planning, balance of supply and demand.

  • An ability to manage suppliers and supplier relationships to ensure effective delivery performance.

  • An ability to manipulate data and experience of Excel is essential.

  • Strong Interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

  • Experience of using an MRP system would be advantageous.

Salary and Benefits

  • The company offers a competitive basic salary together with a bonus scheme based on order activity.

  • Core hours would be Monday-Friday 39.5 hours total.

  • Twenty annual days holiday plus statutory days in the first year rising to 25 days in the second year. Also up to five additional service days are given on a phased basis after 10 years of employment.

  • The Company provides a contributory personal pension plan. The Company will match personal contributions up to a maximum of 5% of the basic salary. When you join this scheme the company will also provide Death in Service benefits which is currently set at 4 times the basic salary. The employee must be a contributing member of the pension scheme to receive this benefit.
