First Choice are actively recruiting for a Commercial Manager. Our client, Sitting on the outskirts of Wakefield, has a fantastic opportunity for an entrepreneurial and enthusiastic individual to join their team.

Overview

You will be a key member of our Management Team, leading front of house, retail and booking operations, and working with colleagues throughout the organisation to develop and grow our commercial opportunities and income generating activities, growing the organisation through sponsorship and partnership development together with the expansion of commercial and retail relationships and opportunities.

The Role:

  • In the role of Commercial Manager you will develop and lead on a commercial strategy to ensure the business maintains a strong and credible offer in the tourist market, working with colleagues to target a relevant audience and develop and report on quantitative and qualitative performance targets.

  • You will provide an efficient and effective visitor welcome and booking service, recruiting, training and developing a flexible and resilient team, supported to achieve full potential.You will be experienced in working in a customer facing environment, preferable in the tourism sector. Your IT skills will be excellent and you will have the confidence to lead a team and work on your own initiative. You will be excited by the possibilities of developing our offer and extending our reach, attracting visitors from all walks of life.

  • With an understanding of the economic environment, develop and lead on a commercial strategy to ensure the business maintains a strong and credible offer in the tourist market, working with colleagues to target a relevant audience and develop and report on quantitative and qualitative performance targets.

  • Develop and deliver a range of opportunities for on-going income generation including legacy funding, individual giving, sponsorship, and membership schemes acting as an ambassador for the organisation, building effective relationships and networks.

  • Directly manage the planning and delivery of key commercial activities including but not limited to key commercial events (i.e. Christmas, Halloween and Summer) and licensing, filming and photography.

  • Review and develop on site and online retail offer to ensure the offer is on brand and delivering maximum benefit for the organisation, taking advantage of best practice sourcing, pricing, and selling techniques. Develop performance management measures to demonstrate performance.

  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process and financial reporting on income generation including the management and reporting of financial information. Agree sales targets and put strategies in place to achieve them by maximising spend and profit per head.

  • Provide an efficient and effective visitor welcome and booking service, recruiting, training and developing a flexible and resilient team, supported to achieve full potential.

  • Be accountable for their own personal development and to keep up to date with commercial developments within the museum and industrial heritage sector.

  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of all staff, volunteers and of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.

Occasionally situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested.

 

Person Specification:

Knowledge and Experience

 

  • ·Experience of developing and achieving commercial targets

  • Experience of working within a customer facing environment, preferably in the tourism sector

  • Demonstrable experience in at least two of the following key areas giving, sponsorship and membership schemes, retail procurement and merchandising, and managing commercial events

  • Knowledge of electronic front of house, retail and booking systems (preferably TOR)

  • Experience of managing a team of staff including recruitment, induction, training, and performance management Graduate level qualification or equivalent

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with people from different backgrounds.

  • Ability to work on own initiative, manage conflicting priorities and remain calm, enthusiastic, and professional under pressure

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office

  • Excellent customer service and sales skills, with attention to detail

  • Interest in museums and industrial heritage

  • Excellent analytical and budgeting skills and ability to work within budgets but not compromise on standards
